The ashes were said to be largely from the open cremations sites on the outskirts of the city that were set up by the government when the COVID fatalities peaked last month and pressure was building up on crematoriums.
The mass immersion of ashes was performed by a battery of priests in the presence of Revenue Minister R Ashoka, Mandya District-in-charge Minister K C Narayana Gowda and senior officials.

Mobile oxygen concentrators have come as a relief in the treatment of COVID-19 patients in Mandya, particularly in taluks and rural pockets where the cases have seen a spike.
Mandya is among the districts in the State that are reporting over four-digit cases since many days with sharp rise in positivity rate and the case fatality rate.
On an appeal to the State COVID-19 Task Force, Mandya got 40 mobile oxygen concentrators, which are now being used across the district for treating patients based on their case status.
They are turning out to be convenient for doctors who can treat patients without waiting for their hospitalisation. Thanks to the concentrators, even moderate cases can now be treated in COVID-19 Care Centres.

Former Minister and Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Deve Gowda on Friday urged the State government to immediately fix oxygen quotas for each district to avert an “oxygen war”.
Addressing a press conference here, he regretted that the government had not taken steps to ensure equitable distribution of oxygen among different districts even after the Chamarajanagar deaths.
In the absence of any guidelines by the government on usage of oxygen, Mr. Gowda said the district in-charge Ministers of neighbouring Mandya and Chamarajanagar, K.C. Narayana Gowda and S. Suresh Kumar respectively, have come to Mysuru and taken away oxygen cylinders with full police security.
