Sedgwick County recruit deputy arrested after disturbance

Posted By: George Lawson January 27, 2021 @ 11:32 am Local News, News The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday a recruit deputy was arrested by Wichita police after a report of a disturbance. Officers were called to an active disturbance in east Wichita on January 23rd, and a recruit deputy was booked for interference with law enforcement.   The deputy has been employed by the Sheriff’s Office for about four months. The deputy is accused of concealing, destroying or altering evidence with the intent to prevent or hinder the apprehension or prosecution of any person.   The Professional Standards Unit of the Sheriff’s Office is conducting its own investigation, and the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.

Sedgwick County jail moving to e-mail only for inmates

Posted By: Jacob Weston January 20, 2021 @ 9:20 am Local News, News In an effort to stop drugs from making it into the jail, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will no longer allow personal mail to be sent to inmates. The jail contracts with Securus Technologies for a lot of services, and they will handle this too. Starting immediately, mail to an inmate should be addressed as shown below. Letters and photos will be scanned and delivered to inmates electronically. Personal mail sent to the jail after February 1 will be returned to the sender. The Sheriff’s Office provided the following instructions:

TOPEKA Glen Burdue says the “prayer warriors” who joined him in this week’s rally in Washington, D.C., bonded in a spiritual war to wrest control from corrupt politicians, lying journalists, antifa, Black Lives Matter, and Chinese influence. He and his like-minded “patriots” represent the majority, Burdue said, and will prevail in reclaiming their country. The semiretired Belle Plaine resident chartered a bus from Wichita, making stops in Emporia, Topeka and Kansas City, to transport 43 Kansans to the U.S. Capitol. There were farmers, a retired police officer, individuals who have run for political seats and office holders within the Kansas Republican Party, he said.
