Borders General Hospital A WOMAN who refused to leave the Borders General Hospital after being discharged and ended up assaulting police officers has been ordered to be of good behaviour for the next nine months. Stephanie Muir, 30, of Howdenbank, Hawick, pleaded guilty to threatening or abusive behaviour in the casualty department in December of last year and then assaulting two police officers. Selkirk Sheriff Court was told that Muir had been discharged earlier in the morning but said she did not want to leave. Members of staff tried to get her to leave but she continued to refuse to do so.

Selkirk Sheriff Court heard that Stewart Hennessey, from Broughton, already had six penalty points on his driving licence when he narrowly passed the cyclist, an off-duty police officer, at excessive speed on the afternoon of April 27. The incident was caught by the cyclist s helmet camera and he was able to shout out the licence plate number which would be recorded on the camera s audio equipment. The 56-year-old journalist was initially charged with dangerous driving and if convicted that would have meant an automatic disqualification from the road.

Hawick man jailed for attempted robbery on Galashiels shop

Selkirk Sheriff Court A MAN who attempted a knifepoint robbery on a Galashiels shop has been jailed for 16 months. Selkirk Sheriff Court heard that William Devlin, 29, entered the Premier store in Scott Street and threatened the female shop assistant with the weapon if she did not hand over money from the till. However, the woman refused his demand and told the masked raider to go away. He fled empty-handed and was later identified by CCTV. Devlin, of Howdenbank, Hawick, pleaded guilty to charges of assault and attempted robbery and also being in possession of a pointed article in a public place on the afternoon of Sunday, August 2.

Jason Lowe, 39, of Hawick, pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in the hospital’s casualty department after being taken there for treatment last month. Sheriff Peter Paterson said he would have jailed Lowe for 240 days but reduced the sentence to 200 days due to the guilty plea. He back-dated the sentence to November 9 when Lowe was first remanded in custody in connection with the matter.
