Blow for Severn Valley Railway as vintage signs stolen from Arley station

Some of the stolen vintage signs at Arley Railway Station THE Severn Valley Railway has been forced to take down the vintage signs decorating its station at Arley, near Bewdley, to stop them from being stolen after 21 signs disappeared last month. Thieves targeted the station on two consecutive nights on March 28 and 29, making off with a mixture of enamel advertising signs and Great Western Railway notice cast iron signs which the SVR has been collecting over a number of years. Station master Ian Latimer said the signs were of great value to the Severn Valley Railway, although they re not believed to be worth much money as many had been restored. Some were almost 100 years old.

Culture Recovery Fund boost for Kidderminster Railway Museum

Kidderminster Railway Museum is one of 2,700 recipients across the country to benefit from the latest round of awards from the government s Culture Recovery Fund to help organisations recover from the Covid pandemic. Kidderminster Railway Museum has been awarded £19,000 from the government s latest round of the Culture Recovery Fund The £19,025 funding boost will be spent on improving public access both physically and virtually to the museum, which is based in a warehouse adjacent to the Severn Valley Railway, by extending the existing building, providing lift facilities and improving its online offering by launching virtual tours of its collections.
