NCC nursing students rewarded
Nursing students at Norwalk Community College (NCC) can get free ice cream in advance of their final exams, at noon Monday, May 3, according to a press release from the NCC Foundation. The ice cream truck will be at NCC’s West Campus front parking lot off Richards Avenue near the building’s main entrance. Southold Town police arrested a 51-year-old Cutchogue woman for driving while intoxicated after she struck a telephone pole and drove down an embankment into marshlands off Skunk Lane in Cutchogue early Sunday.
According to police, responders found Susan Hepensteil trapped in her 2019 Ford Escape and determined she was intoxicated after assisting her out of the vehicle shortly after 2 a.m.
No injuries were reported but Ms. Hepensteil was transported to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital for evaluation before being charged with DWI at police headquarters.
• A Southold postal worker called police last Monday morning after several customers complained about a man filming and taking photos outside the post office on Traveler Street, which made them feel uncomfortable.

Donations to the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) through Sunday Dec. 20 will be matched dollar for dollar by Wilton retailer Outdoor Sports Center, according to a press release. A popular source for cold weather clothing, hiking boots, bikes, and other such items, Outdoor Sports Center’s 80 Danbury Rd. location is a short distance away from NRVT’s Route 7/Wolfpit Road trailhead.
“We are so pleased that our friends at Outdoor Sports Center in Wilton are supporting new miles of the NRVT. This year, COVID showed us how important it is to get outside, and now there are many new fans of the trail,” NRVT Executive Director Beth Merrill said. “Donating to the NRVT is a gift that comes back to you in the form of new trail to explore and enjoy.” NRVT usage is said to
