Two close friends of missing hiker in Skagit County were the first to begin searching for him
Search and rescue crews with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office began their official search Sunday. Crews from Snohomish County joined the efforts, as well as units from the U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Navy.
SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. - Day three wrapped up on Thursday in the search of a missing hiker in Skagit County. 66-year-old Tom Simonseth vanished from the popular Hidden Lake Trails on Saturday.
He was hiking alone, which he should have never done, she said. That’s the hardest part. Simonseth is a retired teacher who has been hiking for about a year, his wife told Q13FOX. (Skagit County Sheriff’s Office )
After Simonseth failed to return Saturday, two of his friends with mountaineering experience hiked up to the area to look for him, the sheriff’s office said. The pair spent the night in the hopes of resuming the search in the morning.
The sheriff’s office launched an official search with the assistance of search and rescue groups from Skagit and other counties at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Search and rescue crews in the Cascades are looking for a 66-year-old hiker who was expected to return home Saturday night.
SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. - Search and rescue crews were back in the mountains of Skagit County Monday morning to search for a missing hiker who never made it home from Hidden Lake Trail.
According to the Skagit County Sheriff s Office, deputies were notified about 8:30 p.m. Saturday that 66-year-old Thomas Simonseth of Mount Vernon had not returned from the day hike.
