A 44-year-old man who authorities say confessed to murdering a 16-year-old boy in Savage earlier this year died in custody Tuesday.
The Scott County Sheriffâs Office said corrections officers found Taran Cortez Miller unresponsive in his cell at approximately 3:46 a.m. Dec. 22.
Miller appeared to be suffering from a medical emergency, according to the sheriffâs office, and officers immediately began performing CPR and continued performing life-saving efforts alongside Allina Emergency Medical Services once they arrived.

âAfter exhaustive efforts to resuscitate Miller, he was pronounced dead at 4:33 a.m.,â the sheriffâs office wrote in a press release. âDue to the ongoing nature of the investigation and review of the death by the Minnesota Department of Corrections, no further details are available at this time.â

SCOTT COUNTY, Tenn. Scott County Property Assessor Tony Sexton has died of COVID-19, according to officials.
The Scott County Sheriff s Office said on a Facebook post that Sexton was placed on a ventilator and battled the virus at Tennova Turkey Creek for days.
Officials said that Sexton was a man with a loving and serving heart and a dedicated public servant.
Eight-year-old Elissa Westing of New Prague was named the winner of the Scott County Sheriffâs Office fourth annual Seasonâs Greetings Card Contest.
Westingâs artwork will be featured on the front page of this yearâs official Scott County Sheriffâs Office greeting card, which are mailed to agency partners, sponsors and various officials, according to a news release from the sheriffâs office.
In years past, Sheriff Luke Hennen enjoyed lunch with the winner, but this year, he delivered Westingâs prizes to her from a safe distance. Elissa received a gift card to her favorite restaurant, along with other sheriffâs office goodies, the release said.

This spring came with a surge in both firearm prices and permit requests. That hasnât slowed down much, according to area gun dealers and law enforcement officials.
In both Carver and Scott counties, firearm permit-to-carry demand continues to be steady. (Data does not include permit-to-purchase requests, some of which are handled separately by local police departments.)
In Scott County, carry permits averaged at 241 per month, steadily increasing each month from April to October. October saw 444 carry permits, and through Nov. 12, monthly permits were at 345, according to Sheryl Schmitt, administrative services supervisor with the Scott County Sheriffâs Office.
