Some Wellington bus customers will face disruptions to their travel on Tuesday 13 July between 9.30am and 1.30pm as Tranzurban drivers attend a Tramways Union meeting.
Metlink general manager, Scott Gallacher says, “This disruption only affects a part of our network, so customers can rest assured that the vast majority of our bus services will run as usual.”
The Union meeting will not affect school services, but customers using off-peak services that are on Tranzurban routes will face service cancellations.
The number 1 route is among hundreds of bus services expected to be cancelled on Tuesday. Tramways Union secretary Kevin O’Sullivan said Tuesday’s meeting would focus on plans to establish a regional pay agreement that would apply consistently across the four bus operators in the wider Wellington area. Metlink general manager Scott Gallacher said the vast majority of the city’s bus services will run as usual. “Whilst some of our services will be impacted, Metlink supports any Union members attending this important meeting,” he said. “The key thing for customers is to please check before you travel as there will be individual trips affected rather than entire routes”.

But the timing could not be worse for the country’s dairy industry which generates a quarter of New Zealand’s exports as it struggles to recover from a botulism contamination crisis earlier this month.
