There Will Be No July 4th Parade on the Mall This Year

The National Independence Day Parade has been canceled, the National Park Service announced Thursday. High school bands and youth organizations “have not had the necessary 8 to 18 months to organize, rehearse and fundraise before making the trip, and most are still unable to travel due to COVID-19 concerns,” NPS says.
Last year’s parade was also canceled due to the pandemic. The Park Service says it plans to bring the parade back in 2022.

DC residents may receive phone numbers with the new area code 771 by November 9, 2021, the District’s Public Service Commission announced Monday.

In preparation for the new code, technically called an overlay because it serves people in 202, an existing area code you and someone else in your house could have different area codes, for instance seven-digit dialing will go away on October 9. That may seem like an anachronism, but as the commission points out, some older equipment, like alarm systems and medical-alert devices, may be programmed to dial only a seven-digit number. 911, 211, 311, 511, and 811 won’t change.
On April 22, GALA Hispanic Theater will open

GALA plans numerous precautions, including limiting the audience to 50 per performance and seating patrons six seats apart, and says a new air-filtration system will replace the theater’s air six times an hour. The show will run to May 9.
