Rebus writer Ian Rankin finds artistic touch for Scottish art project

THEY started out as 46 plain white vases, blank ceramics, but have now been transformed into stunning designs by some of Scotland’s most high profile contemporary artists and creatives. From David Mach, known for his large Big Heid sculptures along the M8, to Adrian Wiszniewski, Celie Byrne, daughter of artist John Byrne, and Neil McPherson, the response has been overwhelming for organiser and artist June Carey. And there will be a rare opportunity to see the vases when they are exhibited at the Glasgow Print Studio next month for Art In Mind. Read more: While most are known for their art, Rebus creator Ian Rankin has also produced a vase which will be on display. His design involves noughts and crosses which is a homage to the first novel Rebus appeared in, Knots and Crosses, in 1987. Comedian Phill Jupitus has also got involved in the project and currently embarking on a new path studying art at Dundee University.

Clydebank s Demi Lee Kelly and Mollie-Rose Shields named as Young Scot award finalists

TWO young Bankies have been named as finalists in the 2021 Young Scot awards for their generosity towards others during the pandemic. Mollie-Rose Shields and Demi Lee Kelly both featured on the awards shortlist when it was published last week. Mollie-Rose, 11, caught the eye of the judges after the Post featured her generosity towards her neighbours in the early days of the first coronavirus lockdown a year ago. The St Eunan’s Primary pupil used her own money during the initial lockdown to buy Easter eggs for her neighbours, sparking donations from members of the public which enabled her to give out 600 more eggs around the community.
