Keltbray suffers £9m loss as revenue drops by a quarter

Keltbray CEO Darren James Keltbray suffered a £9.4m pre-tax loss in 2020 as the pandemic disrupted its work. COVID-19 caused the contractor’s sites to close temporarily and delayed projects. The pandemic, combined with the completion of large contracts the previous year, resulted in Keltbray’s turnover falling £135m – from £563m to £428m – for the year to 31 October 2020. The firm also carried out a restructuring during the year with 270 jobs cut, which added £1.5m in redundancy costs. The company said the move had helped it to cut its overheads by £11.9m, however. The £9.4m loss in 2020 contrasted with a £10.5m pre-tax profit the prior year.
