COVID delays £230m hospital handover

The handover of the £230m Edinburgh Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (RHCYP) has been delayed due to pressures associated with COVID-19. NHS Lothian said it has delayed the commissioning of the hospital, which involves testing the design and operational functions of the facility, by two to three weeks , in order to reduce the risk of coronavirus for workers. The handover of the hospital cannot take place until the commissioning phase and investigation of the site is complete. The hospital was originally due to open in 2017, but was found not to be compliant with ventilation health standards, a problem that was later blamed on mistakes made at the tender stage in 2012. A later report by KMPG, commissioned by the Scottish Government, found that both the NHS and contractor Integrated Health Solutions Lothian (IHSL) a joint venture comprising Multiplex, Bouygues and HCP Management Services, could have identified the error.
