Dear Colleagues,
I write to share the news that Professor of Marine Science, Emeritus Maynard M. Nichols, 93, passed away peacefully on May 12 with his wife, Jane, by his side. He was born in Patchogue, NY on January 13, 1928 to Francis Nancy Nichols and Maynard Asa Nichols. Nick, as he was fondly referred to by family and friends, had a life-long love of the environment, especially rivers and oceans. This love guided him through his educational career earning him a B.S. from Columbia University, a M.S. from Scripps Institute of Oceanography and a Ph.D. from UCLA.
