IL Hits 16,000 COVID Deaths, West Central IL Infection Numbers Begin To Slow

The Morgan County Health Department received confirmation of 4 deaths and 60 new cases over the holiday. The deaths included a male and a female in their 80s as well as a male in his 60s at long-term care facilities, and a male in his 60s who died at home. Morgan County has now had 81 overall COVID-related deaths. Morgan County currently has 158 active cases with 12 of those hospitalized. 365 people are in quarantine. With the large total over the 5-day holiday, Morgan County has now had over 3,000 reported cases of the virus.

Death Toll Rises From COVID; State Announces More Vaccine Doses On the Way

By Benjamin Cox on December 21, 2020 at 5:57pm COVID-19 painted another grim picture across West Central Illinois this weekend. The Morgan County Health Department reported 86 new cases today along with 5 additional deaths from over the weekend. The new deaths included 4 females in their 90s and one female in her 70s. All of the deceased were members of long-term care facilities. Morgan County currently has 296 active cases, with 13 of those remaining hospitalized. 316 people are currently in quarantine. Morgan County has now had 77 residents die due to the virus. The Cass County Health Department is reporting 19 new cases of Covid in Cass County. Five individuals received positive Covid results over the weekend; an additional 14 positive tests were reported today. The active case count is at 120, with 7 hospitalized in Cass County.

The COVID-19 Message Remains the Same for Upcoming Holiday Season

Listen to the radio story, which features brief interviews with Wanda Foster and Raeva Farris Farris urged people to take advantage of the Illinois Department of Public Health s free COVID-19 testing offered in Macomb on Monday, December 21; Wednesday, December 30; and Saturday, January 2.  The testing will be done in Q lot on the Western Illinois University campus from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. Farris said she can see a light at the end of the tunnel for the pandemic. But she said we are not out of the woods yet. It will only get better when everybody takes part and follows what the CDC and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recommend, she said.  We all have to cooperate and work together.
