Schuyler County Sheriff William Yessman, who has been with the sheriff s office for 36 years and is in the final year of his fourth term, will not seek a fifth term as sheriff.
Yessman, who was elected in 2005 and ran unopposed three more times, announced this week he will not run for reelection this year and instead is endorsing Undersheriff Breck Spaulding.
Both men are Republicans.
Spaulding has been a member of the Schuyler County Sheriff s Office since 1994 and has been undersheriff since Yessman ascended to the top job.
He has also been the county s STOP-DWI coordinator for 15 years.

A meeting to hear about possible reforms to policing in Schuyler County has been scheduled for next week.
“The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office serves the law enforcement needs of all the citizens of the County, and strives to do so in a professional manner, respecting the rights of all our citizens without regard to race, color, nationality, creed, gender or sexual orientation. Department policies and procedures are developed and carried out with that goal in mind, and our Deputy Sheriffs are selected, trained and supervised with that same goal in mind,” the County said in a press release.
