An ice skating organisation in Harlem that serves young women of colour in New York City has been finding ways to overcome the impact of the pandemic.
Last year, members of Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) did not see the ice from late winter until autumn due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Once they returned, with strict coronavirus-prevention protocols, it was a major step towards normality.
“We had seven and eight-year-olds up to 18-year-olds, and I have to say when you are able to move physically it helps you mentally,” says Sharon Cohen, chief executive and founder of Figure Skating in Harlem.
The U.S. Figure Skating Championships Are Coming to Nashville
And I am here for it. Well, since I live in Kentucky, I guess I should say I am THERE for it. Over the weekend, I was watching NBC s coverage of the World Figure Skating Championships. Sidebar- Go, Nathan Chen!! During the broadcast, they aired a commercial promoting the 2022 U.S. Nationals, which are going to be in Nashville in January. And, get this! Tickets go on sale next week.
Okay, full confession here. I have been watching figure skating my whole life and I was sitting in front of the television when Scott Hamilton won his gold medal in the Sarajevo Olympics. But, until I saw this commercial, I had no idea he was originally from Nashville.

CarMax to Acquire Remaining Stake in Edmunds

Ion International Training Center in Leesburg will be one of eight sites across the nation included in the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Championship Series.
More than 400 figure skaters and approximately 200 coaches from 21 states and the District of Columbia will come to Loudoun to compete in singles with the opportunity to participate in the 2022 US Figure Skating Championships.
“U.S. Figure Skatinglooks forward to returning to Loudoun County and Ion International Training Center for the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Championship Series presented by Toyota,” saidMia Corsini, U.S. Figure Skating director, events.“We’re excited to pick up where we left off in the fall of 2020 and bring a phenomenal event to a top-notch facility, with a community that embraces figure skating from collaboration with ION FSC and the SC of Northern Virginia to the strong support from Visit Loudoun.”
