The five school districts enroll students from 31 towns in central Maine and reported a total of seven cases.

A handful of central Maine school districts reported positive cases of the coronavirus over the weekend, including districts based in Newport, Oakland, Skowhegan, Waterville and Unity.
MAINE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT 54
MSAD 54 Superintendent Jon Moody wrote in a letter to the community Sunday that a Canaan Elementary School student tested positive. Five staff members and 10 students were required to quarantine due to exposure.
Skowhegan-based MSAD 54 also reported a case at Skowhegan Area High School on Friday in which a student tested positive. One staff member and a “small group of students” were required to quarantine.

Three individuals from Maine School Administrative District 49, 54 and Waterville Public Schools have tested positive for COVID-19.

In a letter published Wednesday on the Fairfield-based district’s website, Superintendent Roberta Hersom said that a person at Lawrence Junior High School had tested positive for the disease.
The Department of Education and the Center for Disease Control & Prevention have not identified any close contacts, according to Hersom.

“The right wing and the left wing are part of the same bird,” she said.
Colwell, a ninth-grader at Gardiner Area High School, said the quote is especially meaningful this year.

Superintendent: Architects look at all Skowhegan area schools in planning project
Maine School Administrative District 54 recently chose an architectural firm that is looking at the conditions of district schools to see if renovations are needed or if a new building is necessary.
