POTTSVILLE â A city man was jailed Wednesday charged by Pottsville police with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old child.
Police said Detective Joseph Welsh charged Michael Adam Heck, 40, with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, indecent exposure, sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of a child.
Heck was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $250,000 straight cash bail.
Police said the investigation that led to the charges began on Dec. 11 when Patrolman Anna Flail was told the child disclosed that she had been the victim of inappropriate sexual contact committed by Heck inside his home.

Two Allentown men possessing an unlicensed firearm and $58,000 worth of suspected fentanyl sideswiped two vehicles while fleeing police Friday in Schuylkill County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Shakier Kingsley, 29, and Carlos Reynoso, 29, each face felony drug and firearm charges. Kingsley was also charged with one felony count of attempting to elude police, among other lesser charges.
According to police, state troopers attempted to pull over Kingsley and Reynoso for unspecified traffic violations shortly after 3:30 p.m. Friday on Rt. 901 in Barry Township. Kingsley, who was driving, fled south toward Minersville, and sideswiped an occupied vehicle near the Kings Village shopping center.
