SCHENECTADY A vacant industrial building on the city’s Northside will become a research and development facility serving computer chip makers and their suppliers.
A New York City-based semiconductor industry adviser and investor purchased the 18,000-square-foot structure at 2210 Technology Drive formerly used as a chemistry lab by M&P Labs.
The new owner is Robert Maire, who created First Principles Technology LLC for the venture. He said Thursday he’s already completed cleaning out the space and next will install the cleanroom and other infrastructure needed for its new use. He expects to be ready for occupancy in the next few weeks.

Schenectady County announces Initiative Arts Grant Program; $30K available | The Daily Gazette

Schenectady County is accepting applications for the 2021 County Initiative Arts Grant Program (CIP). A total of $30,000 is available to local organizations in support of activities inhistoric preservation, the performing, visual and literary arts, or programs promoting county tourism.
Proposed projects must take place between June 1, 2021 and Dec. 31, 2021.
In 2019 a record 39 community organizations across the county were awarded CIP funding. Events funded in 2019 included the Kids Art Festival, the Freedom Park Concert Series, the Gazette Holiday Parade, Glenville Oktoberfest and the Little Italy Street Festival, as well as smaller community events including the Kids Ice Fishing Derby at Mariaville Lake and the Mohawk/Hudson Bike-Hike Trail “Color the Canal.”

The Schenectady County Legislature will appoint a successor to Legislator Michael Eidens, whose r The meeting requires a 10-day notice. Three candidates told Savage they are interested in completing the remaining two years of Eidens’ four-year term in District 3, and others are expected to come forward, she said. Eidens left the Legislature to become a state judicial hearing officer. District 3 consists of Glenville and Niskayuna and is the largest of the four county Legislature districts. Any replacement would have to seek re-election in 2009 for a full four-year term. The seat carries an annual salary of just over $14,000.
