If they aren’t already, Guyanese-Americans are widely considered Schenectady’s largest ethnic group, says former Mayor Al Jurczynski, who’s credited with the city’s recruitment of them from the commercial and residential Richmond Hill section of Queens in 2002.
They were drawn, in part, by property-investment opportunities. At the time, Schenectady offered rundown homes for as cheap as $1 to people who could prove they had the wherewithal to bring them back to life while adhering to code restrictions, then-city development director Jay Sherman said.

Saratoga Springs native has done sound engineering for films, TV; he’s about to make directorial debut

Growing up in Saratoga Springs, Matt Rocker saw everything as an instrument.
When recording a demo tape as a kid, he’d play some chords on his acoustic guitar, loop drum fills off his Casio keyboard’s drum machine, record it all with a four-track recorder and mix it down with an old-school reel-to-reel tape deck. He did what he could to make music, and oftentimes that meant getting a little innovative.

Post, along with David Frost and mastering engineer Silas Brown, won for Shostakovich: Symphony No. 13, “Babi Yar” by Riccardo Muti & Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
