SARATOGA SPRINGS The Saratoga Harness Horseperson’s Association says it understands that disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic have hurt Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady, but say it has hurt them too, with fans not allowed in the harness track stands and fewer race days.
On Tuesday, Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, D-Saratoga Springs, and horseperson’s association representatives called on Rivers to come to the negotiating table and try to settle the issue of Rivers’ not paying a legally required quarterly payment to support harness racing purses, which have had to shrink because the roughly $1 million per quarter payments aren’t being made.

SCHENECTADY Ambition Coffee and Eatery is gearing up for an upgrade.
Owner Marc Renson said the plan is improvement of existing space rather than expansion into new space. He said the project will create a second-floor balcony, but didn’t want to disclose other details. Some aspects, he said, haven’t even been decided.
“I don’t have a look of the place yet,” Renson said.
“I see it on the blueprint, but I don’t know. I have to feel it in my soul.”
Whatever the visual changes, the bistro’s Hollywood theme will endure, he added.

SCHENECTADY After his appliance warehouse/retail store on Crane Street caught fire, John D. Marcella said he’d either rebuild the old structure or tear it down and build something in its place.
“We’re going to figure it out. We’re not going to throw in the towel, though,” he said Oct. 13, a few hours after firefighters put out the flames.
As it turns out, the damage is too expensive to be worth fixing. Marcella’s Appliance Center now plans to tear it down and replace it.
