After observing her fluffing the hair, I suggested that we create a star, so I molded it, creating an image that she kept throughout her career. When she returned home after the show she was glowing and the phone began to ring, with many different reactions to her boldness. She turned to me and said, ‘You see the power of hair?’ Simple as that… I understood that she was empowering me to be all that I dreamed.”

Schenectady puts forward allocation of CARES Act funding to assist homeless community | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS The city has opened the public comment period for its plan to distribute nearly $995,000 in federal coronavirus relief funding targeted to responding to the impact of the pandemic on the homeless community, with six local agencies set to receive funds. Under the CARES Act, the city was allocated a total of $994,996 in Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG-CV2) funding by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to prevent, prepare for and respond to the pandemic among individuals and families who are homeless. In order to access the funding, the city is required to present a plan to HUD identifying key partners and service providers; as well as specific services and activities that will help prevent, prepare for and respond to COVID-19 among the homeless population.

How are you feeling right now? That was the jumping-off point for the high school students at Brown School as they embarked on “The Empathy Project: Connection Through Chaos,” a virtual live production put on in collaboration with The Outer Loop non-profit theater company that will give the students a chance to connect their personal stories with whatever creative outlets they choose. For 11th-grader Owen Morley, that translated into creating a time-lapse drawing with a voice-over that reflects on his experience growing up as an adopted child from Russia. For his classmate, Kabir Pabla, it became the inspiration for the poster of the event, an image juxtaposing protests in India seeking justice for the country’s Sikh minority with the riots at the U.S. Capito
