The second project is Nic Madge’s
Pandemic Portraits.
Since October 2020, Nic has been recording the way in which we are surviving the pandemic by making portraits of people as they go about their daily lives.
Each photograph shows an individual with and without their facemask, with a quote underneath about how the pandemic has affected them. These images capture a moment in time of St Albans under lockdown.
Nic plans to keep taking photographs for a year to the end of September 2021.
The full collection of images will then be added to St Albans Museums collection.
Councillor Anthony Rowlands, the council s portfolio holder for leisure, heritage and the public realm, said: “The people of St Albans have reacted to the challenges of lockdown with resilience and positivity.

Rapid Covid testing sites are opening across Hertfordshire from today. Credit: PA Several rapid coronavirus testing centres are opening in Hertfordshire from today for people with no symptoms of the disease. The council-run sites will offer free lateral flow tests which can detect whether someone has Covid within minutes. According to the government, 1 in 3 people with Covid do not show any symptoms, so rapid testing is a quick way for someone to find out if they are infectious. Anyone taking a lateral flow test should receive a test result within one hour of taking the test. Primarily, this type of testing is aimed at key workers who are unable to work from home, but the testing is open to the community as well.
