Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Senator Peter Bunting, has said the arrest and charge of former Chairman of Petrojam, Dr Perceval Bahado-Singh, on 12 counts of obtaining money by false pretence, would serve as an important deterrent to persons inclined towards corruption within the public sector.
Bunting issued a statement on Monday, shortly after Bahado-Singh was arrested and charged by detectives from the Major Organised Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA).
It is alleged that between December 2016 and May 2018, Bahado-Singh fraudulently claimed reimbursements and was paid monies by Petrojam, the state-owned oil refinery, for overseas business trips that he did not take.
MOCA said the fraudulent claims over the period amounted to US$73,620.
