From Staff Reports PHOTO PROVIDED Students from State College High School presented 260 gift cards to Centre Crest at State College High School on Dec. 22. BELLEFONTE When Waverly Haung, a junior at State College Area High School, read that nearly 90 percent of residents at Centre Crest had COVID-19, she knew she had to do something. “At first, I felt like I didn’t have much power because I’m a teenager. I can’t drive. I don’t have a credit card,” she said. “But I started researching and saw other teenagers raising funds through sites like GoFundMe.” Haung talked with her friends and five more jumped at the opportunity to help. Tiffany Chen, a State High sophomore; Caleb Du, a State High freshman; Qingqing Zhao, a senior at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh; Anker Zhao a Shady Side Junior; and Kevin Lin a junior from the Washington D.C. area.

Harvey Pride, Jr

Harvey Pride, Jr., 73, long-time Decatur resident, died at his home on December 15, 2020. Born on March 9, 1947, in Decatur, he was the oldest of three sons born to Harvey Pride, Sr. and Rachel Walker Pride. He was a 1965 graduate of Decatur High School, where he played Varsity Football and one his many accomplishments was being an Eagle Scout. He attended Auburn University and graduated from Athens State College. Harvey was very active in the Community and had more friends than could be counted. He loved the water and boating, and riding his Harley in the Smokey Mountains. He was a longtime business man in Decatur, spending 28 years with Lakeland Industries as Vice President of Manufacturing before retiring. He was CEO of Madison Mobile Storage for 46 years. He joined the Decatur Rotary Club in 1973 where he had 47 years of perfect attendance as Sargeant at Arms. Harvey attended his first Port Authority board meeting on June 25, 1993.
