Full classes for some after schools cleared

Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw announced this yesterday during a televised press conference, moments after Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic revealed that all testing of students and staff associated with the probe of St George Primary School and Princess Margaret School had produced no further COVID-19 cases. Last week, public health officials had started the special investigation and aggressive contract tracing after a Princess Margaret schoolgirl had tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be isolated, and a pupil from St George Primary might have been exposed to infection.

May 9, 2021 Minister of Health and Wellness Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic on Sunday announced that the St George Primary School and the Princess Margaret Secondary School are now “cleared” from a public health perspective. Last week Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kenneth George confirmed that health authorities were investigating COVID-19 exposures at the two schools. At a news conference this afternoon, Bostic said seven of the new positive cases of COVID-19, identified by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory in its most recent report, were attributed to two family clusters that health officials have been following for the past several days. He said one of those family clusters had three new cases, while the other had four.

So says Minister of Health and Wellnes Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic who this evening sought to quell fears that the respiratory illness was rampant at the St Philip institution as well as at the St George Primary School. During a nationally-televised press conference Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kenneth George confirmed that health authorities were investigating exposures at the two schools. He said while one student at Princess Margaret had tested positive, no positive cases had yet been identified at St George Primary.

Back to the classroom, but not for everyone

(Picture by Shanice King) Social Share School will begin on Monday but acting chief education officer Joy Adamson said not all students were supposed to return. Following a tour of schools this morning, Adamson spoke about how schools would be operating this week. “On Monday not every student is to turn up, only class three and four at primary school. Different schools have different start times so we want every student to be on time,” she said. Adamson was touring with Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw, permanent secretary Betty Alleyne, deputy chief education officer Glyne Price and director Francisco Miller. She was speaking at St George Primary School, the last stop.
