The executive director of the health clinic that serves much of Ottawa’s Inuit community says she has faced numerous questions including from within the health sector about why Indigenous Canadians are a top priority for COVID-19 vaccinations.
“It is discouraging,” said Connie Sideule, executive director of the Akausivik Inuit Family Health Team in Vanier, where more than 1,000 members of the city’s Inuit community have received one dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 2,000 Indigenous Ottawa residents have been vaccinated at Akausivik and a clinic at the St-Laurent Complex.
