WorkSafe is investigating St Peter’s after workplace bullying allegations, and a principal and deputy principal are not at work. “As police are yet to determine the veracity of the threat the school is evacuating everyone from campus as a precaution,” police said in a statement on Thursday night. “Police are investigating the circumstances and are working with the school to ensure the safety of students and staff.” The school has been at the centre of a series of headlines in the past week. This was followed by revelations that workplace watchdog WorkSafe was looking into the wellbeing of staff at the school.

A staff member at St Peter s School in Cambridge complained about workplace bullying to watchdog WorkSafe in Term 1, the board has confirmed.
In an email - which also acknowledges the slow release of information to parents and caregivers - board chairman John Erkkila revealed further details and said the board had been contacted by WorkSafe in term one that there had been anonymous complainants making concerning allegations of workplace bullying and that WorkSafe was making inquiries.
Workplace bullying “will not be tolerated, now or ever”, Erkkila said. However, he reminded the community around the private year 7 to 13 school that investigations were still under way and the outcome couldn’t be pre-determined.

Questions surround the absence of executive principal Dale Burden and deputy principal Yevette Williams, who are understood not to have been at work since just before the recent term break. After a meeting with WorkSafe, the school board took on two independent investigators who are still working out “what may or may not have occurred”, and if there had been bullying behaviour towards staffers.
