Chemists Synthesize Plant-Based Polymers from Biomass

Chemists Synthesize Plant-Based Polymers from Biomass Written by AZoMApr 13 2021 At the Laboratory of Cluster Catalysis at St Petersburg University, scientists have produced polymers from biomass. The new polymers are different from others in that they can be recycled in a simple way. The study has been published in the Green Chemistry journal. People make use of them both in daily life and in industry.

New Type of Battery Can Charge 10x Faster Than Lithium-Ion Models

10 APRIL 2021 Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are basically everywhere, powering everything from smartphones to notebooks, earbuds to gaming devices, and so much more. But while the convenience of this ubiquitous (and Nobel Prize-winning) battery chemistry has radically changed the way we use and charge portable technology, lithium-ion is far from perfect.   And as anybody who owns a smartphone, tablet, or laptop can attest, charging up lithium-ion batteries can be a slow and time-consuming process. On that front, scientists have some good news to report. Researchers in Russia have developed a new type of battery technology that they say can charge approximately 10 times faster than existing lithium-ion batteries – a speed-up that could offer huge time-saving advantages if it got rolled out in everyday devices.

New Battery can Charge 10 Times Faster than Traditional Lithium-Ion Battery

New Battery can Charge 10 Times Faster than Traditional Lithium-Ion Battery Written by AZoMApr 7 2021 A new type of battery designed by scientists from St Petersburg University can charge 10 times faster than a regular lithium-ion battery. Image Credit: Hryshchyshen Serhii/shutterstock.com The battery has a lower environmental impact and is also safer in terms of possible fire hazards. The study was funded by the Russian Science Foundation and the results have been published in the Batteries & Supercaps journal. Lithium-ion batteries are ubiquitous in people’s day-to-day life. These batteries are generally used in electric vehicles and they dominate the small format battery sector for portable electronic devices.
