John Gant had just settled into his seat, with those flowing red locks and rust-colored beard giving the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher an unmistakable presence, when he was asked about how comfortable he's become working out of the bullpen. “I would really like to have a chance at that starting rotation," Gant replied, “and get out of that bullpen role.” The problem for Gant is that the decision does not rest entirely in his hands, no matter how well he pitches in spring training.

(NEWTON) The Winter Jasper County Solid Waste Program is continuing. The Jasper County Highway Garage dumpsters, along Route 33, northeast of Newton, are open this morning, from now until 3:30 this afternoon. Next week’s rural dumpster will be at the Willow Hill site on Wednesday morning.

(OLNEY/NEWTON) With warmer weather and the chance of rain returning this weekend and into next week, area Township Road Commissioners and County Highway Departments are encouraging all motorists to pay attention to the various roads that are posted with weight limits. From now until April 15, unless otherwise noted, designated township and county roads are under a 5 or 10 ton weight limit. Drivers should be alert to the respective weight limit signs posted on each individual road. If any questions, motorists should contact the respective Township Road Commissioner or County Highway Department offices.
