New St. Vincent de Paul store and food pantry coming to NKY File photo. and last updated 2021-02-24 07:50:19-05 COLD SPRING, Ky. — St. Vincent de Paul is opening a centralized food pantry and thrift store in Northern Kentucky over the next few months. Karen Zengel, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul, said the need for assistance in Northern Kentucky has increased significantly. For example, she said people asking for rent assistance has increased to two-and-a-half times what it was a year ago. Zengel also said they are still asking for donations or gently used furniture, houseware and clothes, but they have volunteers already asking to help when the location opens.

After learning the Community Health Center had extra doses due to expire last week, Columbus House, which serves people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, was notified there were 150 doses of the vaccine that would expire at the end of the day, according to John B. Brooks, chief development officer of the New Haven-based agency.

Dawn To Dawn Opens Pallet Shelters For PeaceHealth Patients

0:57 KLCC s Brian Bull reports on five new units available for unhoused people discharged from hospitals and ERs. Through a partnership between St. Vincent de Paul and Peacehealth, five Pallet shelters have been specifically set up at the Dawn to Dawn site off of Highway 99 North.  The small structures were built with a $74,000 grant from the health organization.  The purchase of the shelters themselves were paid for by Lane County through the federal CARES Act and made available (through a no-cost lease) to St. Vincents and other agencies that serve the unhoused population. The interior of each 64-square-foot shelter includes lighting and heating, shelving and storage space beneath the bed.

My cousin Shea and his wife live in the Lowcountry.  They re right in the middle of Bluffton, South Carolina- just a quick drive from both Hilton Head, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia.  If you ve ever visited that area of the country, you know exactly what we re talking about when someone mentions Lowcountry.   It s southern history, incredible architecture, steamy weather and delicious food. Well, get excited.  A brand new St. Vincent de Paul fundraiser intends to bring the taste and style of the Lowcountry to Owensboro this September.  The charity s annual Power of the Purse fundraiser is going to have a Lowcountry Glam theme this year.  It s set for Friday, September 24th at WeatherBerry, the enchanted farmhouse on the grounds of the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden.
