Local News: Number of active COVID-19 cases in local counties continues to decline (1/14/21)

Thursday, January 14, 2021 The number of active COVID-19 cases locally continues to decline. On Wednesday afternoon, the Scott County Health Department reported 20 new cases and 61 recoveries. Currently, the number of active cases is at 668, the lowest number since Nov. 17. There have been 2,905 recoveries and 71 deaths. Two additional deaths were reported in New Madrid County Wednesday making 40 deaths since the pandemic began in March. There are 40 active cases in the county with 1,907 out of quarantine. The Stoddard County Public Health Center reported 16 new cases Wednesday, giving the county 109 active cases with 2,650 recoveries. There has been 60 deaths reported since March. Cape Girardeau County saw an increase of 40 active cases Wednesday, giving the county 1,346. Nearly 7,000 cases have been resolved in the county while 128 deaths have been reported.

Local News: Active cases in Scott County at lowest mark since Nov 19 (1/8/21)

Friday, January 8, 2021 Scott County has the fewest number of active COVID-19 cases since Nov. 19. On Thursday, the Scott County Health Department reported 19 new cases and 96 recoveries Thursday afternoon leaving the county with 749 active cases, the lowest number of actives since November. To date there has been 2,746 released from isolation in Scott County along with 68 deaths reported since March. Stoddard County has 121 active cases with 20 new cases reported on Thursday by the Stoddard County Public Health Center. There has been 60 deaths in the county related to the virus while 2,578 have recovered. There were six deaths reported in Cape Girardeau County Thursday afternoon. One resident was in their 70s while the other five were in their 80s. There have been 125 deaths related to COVID-19 in the county since the pandemic began.

Local News: More deaths reported as counties await arrival of virus vaccine (1/7/21)

Thursday, January 7, 2021 By David Jenkins/Standard Democrat As local county health departments continue to wait for the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine, deaths due to the coronavirus continue to be reported. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson said Wednesday that 105,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered, not counting the vaccines that have been given at long-term living facilities. He added that they anticipate receiving “an adequate supply” of the vaccine by the end of January to complete Phase 1A of the state’s vaccination plan. Phase 1A is healthcare workers, long-term care facility residents and staff while Phase 1B is high risk populations. Phase 2 is populations at increased risk and Phase 3 is widespread availability for all Missouri residents.

Local News: Area counties continue to see deaths from virus (12/22/20)

Tuesday, December 22, 2020 By David Jenkins/Standard Democrat Seven deaths related to COVID-19 were reported by the Scott County Health Department on Friday, the biggest one-day death total in the county since the pandemic began in March. The deaths, which were reported late Friday afternoon, involved a resident in their 30s, another in their 50s, two in their 60s, one in their 70s and two in their 80s. There has been 59 deaths reported in the county since March. As of Friday, there were 822 active cases in the county with 2,425 recovered. The health department will not release any updated numbers until after Christmas.
