DAVIS, Calif. In the wake of a tragedy, the Davis community has shown an outpouring of support for a family and local business in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
Sam s Mediterranean Cuisine, a staple in Downtown Davis, has been closed throughout the pandemic. Samir Abughannam, better known around town as Sam, had closed the restaurant indefinitely after his wife, Sue, had fallen ill and later passed away from leukemia on Dec. 20.
Tri-Valley dentists Drs. Jeff Bueno and Tom Sellick recently donated $5,000 through their Dentists Against Cancer nonprofit to the ValleyCare Charitable Foundation s Women in Need Fund.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) California s COVID-19 vaccine supply is hitting a new low as counties and providers work to get vaccinate those at high-risk.
Members of Kaiser Permanente and Stanford Healthcare tell ABC7 they re struggling to get appointments, despite meeting qualifications.
The big problem continues to be demand is far outweighing supply.
In Northern California, Kaiser has more than 270,000 members older than 75, but the healthcare system is only receiving an average of 25,000 doses per week, according to staff. That s only enough to cover 9 percent of the Northern California population eligible to receive it.

As a physician working in an intensive care unit in Phoenix, Arghavan Salles has spent the past several months desperately trying to keep Covid-19 patients alive. She knows all too well how terrifying it is for them to be alone in a hospital room, away from their family and dependent on a machine for their every breath. That’s why earlier this month she was feverishly searching online and poring over state public health websites in an attempt to book a vaccination appointment for her mother in California.
