Abbott names his pick to lead Public Utility Commission of Texas after winter storm

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Monday that he has nominated Peter Lake to lead the Public Utility Commission of Texas after the entire board resigned following February’s winter storm.
If confirmed by the Senate, Lake would become the new chairman of the PUC until Sept. 1, 2023.
PUC regulates the state’s electric, telecommunication, water and sewer utilities, implements respective legislation and offers customer assistance in resolving consumer complaints.
“Peter Lake has been a diligent public servant throughout his time with the Texas Water Development Board, and I am confident he will bring a fresh perspective and trustworthy leadership to the PUC,” Abbott said in a written statement. “Peter’s expertise in the Texas energy industry and business management will make him an asset to the agency.
