Stanford Professor to Discuss Impact of Trauma

Dr. Victor G. CarriÃ³n, professor of child and adolescent psychology at Stanford University, will discuss the impact of traumatic stress on mental health, including the COVID-19 pandemic and recent political and social conflicts, during a free online seminar on Tuesday, May 11. The webinar is sponsored by the Pleasanton-based Alan Hu Foundation, created by Xiaofang Chen and Chih-Ching Hu in memory of their son, who committed suicide in 2018 at the age of 15, after struggling with mental illness. CarriÃ³n is the John A. Turner Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine and vice-chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Amazon says it will continue selling Irreversible Damage by Abigail Shrier (Getty/Amazon) Amazon has refused to stop selling a dangerous anti-trans book in spite of an internal complaint filed by dozens of the company’s LGBT+ staff. The book, Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters, is written by the anti-trans journalist Abigail Shrier, who helped proliferate the debunked concept of “rapid onset gender dysphoria”. Her book describes trans identity as “a peer contagion among teen girls”, perpetuating the idea that being transgender is inherently harmful to youth and something to be “cured”. “A generation of girls is at risk,” the Amazon description reads. “Abigail Shrier’s essential book will help you understand what the trans craze is and how you can inoculate your child against it – or how to retrieve her from this dangerous path.”
