Capitals reveal 56-game schedule opponents, open season Jan 14 vs Sabres

In an attempt to limit travel while playing only divisional foes, the Capitals’ regular season schedule includes 24 two-game sets against the same opponent. Washington has four homestands lasting at least four games, too. “I think back-to-backs with no travel are probably going to be a bit better,” general manager Brian MacLellan said Wednesday. “The fatigue shouldn’t be as much with some of the travel we do.” The Capitals finish their regular season at home against the Philadelphia Flyers on May 7 and 8. The Stanley Cup playoffs should begin May 11 and conclude in early July. Washington’s divisional opponents are the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins. The top four teams in each division will make the playoffs, and the winner of the first- and second-round games against those same divisional opponents will advance to facing out-of-division foes.

Wild anxious to play as start of 2020-21 season draws near Some NHL training camps will get underway as soon as next week; Minnesota s to begin Jan. 3 by Dan Myers @mnwildscribe / Wild.com The 2020-21 NHL season is finally a go.  More than three months since crowning the Tampa Bay Lightning as its 2020 Stanley Cup champion, the League and its players came to an agreement on Sunday to play a truncated 56-game season that is scheduled to begin on Jan. 13. And while cold winter nights in Minnesota will once again be filled with hockey soon a comforting thought for many the look and feel of the 2020-21 season will be very different than ones in the past, and what they will look like again in the future.

Veteran forward Melker Karlsson signs in Sweden

Originally posted on Pro Hockey Rumors  |  By Gavin Lee  |  Last updated 12/15/20 There won’t be an NHL contract coming this year for Melker Karlsson. The former San Jose Sharks forward has decided to return to Sweden, signing with Skelleftea AIK in the SHL for the rest of the 2020-21 campaign. Karlsson had spent the last six seasons in San Jose but became an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Now 30, Karlsson is one of the European free-agent success stories in the NHL, able to make the transition from SHL to NHL in 2014. Signed away from Skelleftea by the Sharks, he managed 13 goals and 24 points in his rookie season and never really looked back. In his second year in North America, he went all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals with San Jose, scoring five goals in their long playoff run. He would be on the ice in their next three postseason appearances as well, providing reliable play in the bottom-six and some secondary scoring.
