Starkville teen found dead behind Sudduth Elementary By Dispatch Staff Report • 3 hours ago A Starkville teenager was found dead Tuesday behind Sudduth Elementary School near Evergreen Street. Starkville police issued a welfare concern Tuesday morning regarding a 16-year-old male. It was believed the minor may have had a weapon, SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said. SPD is investigating the death pending lab results, Lovelady said. He would not comment on whether police are seeking any suspects. Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt said the victim’s body has been sent for autopsy but did not comment on cause of death.

(WDAM) – Mississippi public schools could eliminate ineffective outside-the-classroom spending to potentially redirect more than $200 million to teacher salaries and classroom expenses each year. Those findings were contained in reports released this month by State Auditor Shad White. White’s office recently partnered with Columbus Municipal School District; Hinds County School District; and Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District to find ways to improve their operations.

SOCSD to offer summer enrichment sessions The Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District will be offering enrichment learning experiences for students in the district throughout the summer. SOCSD Grants and Innovative Strategies Specialist Brandi Burton presented at the district’s monthly meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the plans for these enhancements activities. While each session will focus on at least one core curriculum subject, students will have the opportunity to participate in topics related to lifestyle and skill-building. Brandi Burton “We need to keep these students with their peers in a classroom type situation as we can for exciting and enriching activities that will spark their interest,” Burton said. “Most of the time when you have students participating in enriching and engaging activities like that they will show gains in reading and mathematics.”
