There s a rocket launch scheduled for 8:02 pm in Maryland that will be visibile in Central New York, weather permitting. The rocket is expected to release a large plume of barium vapor that s not harmful to the environment. That plume should be visible in the southeastern part of the sky about 30-60 seconds after launch.
Unfortunately, the sky conditions don t look to cooperate locally, with patchy fog and drizzle lingering east of Utica. It s possible that there could be some breaks in the overcast west of Utica. Here s a look at our skycast data at the time of launch:

If you re a fan of scanning the sky for things that glow in the night and even if you re not you might want to look to the heavens for a satellite train that is causing some excitement across the country.
They re not. They are satellites launched by Elon Musk s SpaceX as part of its Starlink internet service.
In the Milwaukee area and other parts of Wisconsin, they were visible just before 10 p.m. Friday, a string of at least 50 of them almost equidistant apart, cruising in a line across the night sky and looking like stars.
