Starland yard has quickly become a local favorite, rolling out a weekly rotation of food trucks and entertainment since the summer of 2019. And with St. Patrick’s day around the corner, they have zero intentions of slowing down.
The food truck park, encircled with colorful, muraled shipping containers, will be getting a head start on celebrations starting March 16. Guests will have a chance to test their knowledge and try to win a bar tab at Tuesday Trivia night hosted by local quiz legend Chris Grimmett. Festivities will continue throughout the week with music, games and a special St. Patrick’s Day inspired drink
One year ago, in a then-maskless world, Chris Dickerson (Squirrel’s Pizza, Corner Taco) gave me the grand tour of his 1965 Airstream trailer that was to become Burrito Royale.
As I wrote at the time, he knew that he did not want to pull the trailer all over town, setting up at sundry sites for special events. Dickerson wanted a lot of his own to herald the return to his food truck roots.
Fast forward and Burrito Royale is now for real, opening on March 12 to serve its “semi-swanky” burritos in its semi-permanent space.
A place to call home
“We leased our own lot, 2508 Whitaker,” Dickerson told me in a phone conversation. The property is right behind Vintage Tone, the former House of Strut home, and just a block south of Starland Yard.

In Savannah, businesses in the Starland District are looking back on the year.
They say they’ve learned a lot about themselves, how to adapt to the circumstances, and are looking forward to 2021.
