ANGOLA â As the Steuben County Health Department gears up to open a new COVID-19 vaccine clinic in the Steuben Community Center, interest is growing already from parents wanting to inoculate their children, Health Department Administrator Alicia Walsh says.
Just this week the federal government approved people 12-15 to start getting vaccinated, joining those 16-18 that had weeks earlier been approved.
Indiana State Department of Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lindsay Weaver said on Wednesday that parents can start signing up their 12- to 15-year-olds for vaccines as of 8 a.m. Thursday.
Walsh said sheâs starting to get inquiries from parents about getting their children vaccinated.

ANGOLA â The Steuben County Health Department should know today what direction it can follow with the suspension of the use of the Janssen, or Johnson & Johnson, COVID-19 vaccine that has been flagged because of rare blood clot reactions to the shot.
Steuben County had put its use of the vaccine on pause from Tuesday through Thursday while it awaited direction from the Indiana State Department of Health.
âWe are waiting to hear from the State of Indiana on recommendations going forward,â said Alicia Walsh, administrator for the Steuben County Health Department. âWe should have direction by Thursday if we are allowed to offer Johnson and Johnson to the community in the future.â
ANGOLA â The Steuben County Health Department is hosting a Saturday vaccine clinic for COVID-19, it was announced.
The clinic will be held from 12:30-7 p.m. this Saturday only. The Health Department uses the Moderna vaccine.
Health Department Administrator Alicia Walsh said the special clinic was being held for people who cannot make the typical clinic hours during the week. We re trying to offer hours for those that might be working or have other responsibilities in the week, Walsh said.
This is in addition to the clinic offered by Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, also at the Event Center. Cameron s hours are 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Cameron offers the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.
