COVID-19: 88 new cases, 1 death in Steuben County About a dozen healthcare workers were among the positive tests Staff reports BATH – The Steuben County Public Health Department recorded 88 new COVID-19 cases among Steuben County residents Wednesday, bringing the total to 3,881 confirmed cases with 669 currently active.  About a dozen healthcare workers were among the positive tests.  “Our numbers continue to rise at an unsustainable rate,” said Public Health Director Darlene Smith. “A portion of our cases today are health care workers who are exposed more often than the general public, but it is also concerning for the vulnerable population they may serve and come into contact with. Please heighten your focus on slowing the spread and show great care in your personal choices.”

164 new COVID-19 cases, 4 deaths in Steuben County County: Wayland woman, 42, among COVID-19 deaths Staff reports BATH – A 42-year-old community member from the Village of Wayland was among four COVID-19 related deaths reported by the Steuben County Public Health Department Monday. The other three were female residents of the Fred and Harriett Taylor Health Center, ages 81, 88, and 90. The Wayland resident died while hospitalized, said the Health Department.  “The toll of COVID-19 does not discriminate by demographics, such as age,” said Public Health Director Darlene Smith. “Over the holiday weekend, our community has lost seniors and a woman in the prime of her life. The sorrow we feel for their family and friends cannot be adequately expressed. Please honor their legacy by following public health protocols.”
