Week in Review, Jan 10-16 ,2021

Vaccinations reach 3.5% of local residents INDIANAPOLIS — More than 5,700 residents in the four-county area already have received their first shots of the COVID-19 vaccine, including just over 900 who have received both shots and now are considered fully immune. The region has a long way to go, but local clinics are getting shots into arms as quickly as they receive them. As of Friday morning, a total of 4,741 residents in the four-county area had received only the first shot of the two-shot COVID-19 vaccine regimen, according to data from the Indiana State Department of Health. There also are 981 people who have received both shots.

Easterseals RISE offering program with EDC

ANGOLA — The Steuben County Community Foundation has awarded a $20,000 Impact Grant to Easterseals RISE to support a Pre-Manufacturing Academy, which will be offered in partnership with the Steuben County Economic Development Corp. The Pre-Manufacturing Academy will follow a 10-week program to help individuals prepare for employment with local manufacturers, said a news release from Easterseals RISE, an Angola-based facility that assists disabled people in Steuben and LaGrange counties. Both Easterseals RISE and the EDC will have manufacturing technical training equipment on site to foster development of specific skills needed by area employers. “SCCF is excited to support this collaborative project to help people and businesses in Steuben County,” SCCF President and CEO Jennifer Danic said. “We look forward to seeing Easterseals RISE and the Steuben County EDC work together on this new initiative.”
