CORNING - For more than 30 years, Daryl Tombs served as an emergency responder in Steuben County and was recalled as selfless, committed to his colleagues and community, and a devoted family man.
Tombs, 52, a Critical Care Paramedic at American Medical Response, died Jan. 16 from COVID-19 complications, and he left an impact felt around the region after years of working for multiple fire departments, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and as a dispatcher at Steuben County 911.
A funeral procession was held Jan. 23, filled with nearly 150 vehicles traveling from Savona to Bond-Davis Funeral Homes Inc., in Bath, for the services, before a burial service at Seamans Cemetery, in Savona.

HORNELL Hornell Police Chief T. J. Murray says creating a Hornell Police Department reinvention and reform plan has been a positive experience, opening new avenues of dialogue and providing fresh insights into strengthening the law enforcement agency’s relationship with the community.
With the release of the proposal created after a series of community forums, public surveys and in partnership with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and a Corning Incorporated consultant Hornell Police are inviting residents to continue the conversation.
The plan can be accessed on the department’s Facebook page and on the City of Hornell’s website. Comments, concerns and suggestions may be expressed by emailing HornellPDReform@gmail.com. The site will remain open for comments until 12 a.m., Jan. 19.
