Two prominent South Jersey colleges have joined a growing number of higher education institutions statewide that will require students receive the COVID-19 vaccine in order to return to campus this fall.
The push comes as schools here claim the shot is the best chance to return to a more normal college life.
Rowan University on Thursday became the latest school to join the list, one day after Stockton University announced it would require the vaccine for on-campus students.
With the addition of Rowan and Stockton, New Jersey now has 12 four-year colleges mandating students be protected against COVID-19. Rutgers University in March became the first college in the country to require the vaccine, including at its Camden campus.
As the pandemic wanes, a chorus of commentators are offering predictions about what mark it will leave on higher educationâwith some forecasting colleges collapsing and others seeing increasing alliances with commercial partners. Most anticipate the growing centrality of online learning in university life.
