Value retailer Mr Price has acquired Yuppiechef, the upmarket kitchen products retailer, for a sum that was not disclosed, but which represents 1% of its R47-billion market capitalisation, which would make the deal value around R450-million. This is well below the 5% market cap threshold at which the JSE requires mandatory disclosure.
Yuppiechef burst on to the online scene almost 15 years ago, founded by two friends, Andrew Smith and Shane Dryden, who shared a passion for cooking and an interest in kitchen tools. The brand initially started with 32 products and now stocks thousands, including 300 of the world’s leading brands. Their focus on quality and service, which saw a handwritten thank-you note included in every delivery, convinced a still-sceptical public to shop online.
East Suffolk Council is planning 50 new council homes per year

Garage sites and new builds could be used as part of plans to create 50 new council homes each year in East Suffolk.
East Suffolk Council said it will assess existing land it owns, areas in need of regeneration like Kirkley Waterfront and buying existing homes, where it represents good value, as means of increasing the housing stock.

The council s housing strategy 2020-24 - discussed at the authority s cabinet meeting this week - said planning permission was already secured for 60 homes, while the authority s scrutiny committee suggested modular or pre-fabricated homes could help deliver properties in a shorter timescale.

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Stuart Bird, a long-serving East Texas educator died Jan. 21 at the age of 73 in Tyler.
Stuart Bird was the former superintendent for both the Jacksonville and Troup Independent School Districts. He was principal at Carthage and Jacksonville high schools, and also served as an interim superintendent for Tyler ISD.
Bird was on the board for the Troup Chamber of Commerce for many years.
Jacksonville High School math teacher, Lucy Deroeck, worked with Bird and said, âyou know you can say he was a champion for education but truly it was more than that. You know he was a champion for your personal development. He really wanted everyone to reach their potential and he really thought he believed in you. You believed in yourself when you were around Stuar
