Southold Town police arrested a 29-year-old Greenport man for driving while intoxicated after he reportedly crashed his car into a fire hydrant in Southold Friday.
According to police, Delfido Carrera Lopez was driving his 2005 Honda Civic westbound on Route 25 when he veered off the roadway, struck a fire hydrant and went through a fence and bushes into the front lawn of a residence shortly before 10 p.m.
Officers responding to the scene found Mr. Carrera Lopez to be intoxicated and placed him under arrest for DWI, reports said. He was not injured in the crash.

Chris Scott was falling towards the ground above Long Island, New York, when he realised that something was wrong.
An experienced skydiving instructor with around 6,000 jumps behind him, this should have just been another day at work. Strapped to Scott s chest was a tandem jumper named Gary Messina, for whom the jump was an annual birthday tradition.
But when the men reached an altitude of 175ft, the parachute that had been slowing their descent suddenly collapsed. It had most likely been caught by a dust devil, a small unpredictable tornado that is the bane of skydivers, as it forms in the same clear conditions that are perfect for their sport.

That was the last time he’d be able to celebrate one of her assists, the last postgame car ride.

EAST END, NY A devastated Long Island mother is mourning her daughter, who died in a crash Monday on the Long Island Expressway.
The East End community is coming together to help Violeta Sajbin, whose daughter Katherine died in the crash: Landscape Details in East Hampton, the company where Sajbin works, created a GoFundMe page. Violeta Sajbin lost her beloved daughter Katherine Sajbin at the age of 18, the page said. Words cannot describe how difficult this must be for the family. YAPHANK, Long Island (WABC) Police are investigating a crash on the Long Island Expressway that killed a teenager Monday.
Suffolk County Police say officers responded to a motor vehicle crash in Yaphank after receiving a call at 2:22 p.m.
They say Franklin Eduardo Sajbin was driving a 2004 Jeep eastbound on the Long Island Expressway near exit 66, when he struck a 2018 Alfa Romeo driven by David Cohen.
The Jeep then hit the guardrail and flipped over the embankment, landing on the LIE service road.
The two passengers in the Jeep, 18-year-old Katherine Sajbin, who was sitting in the back seat, and her 40-year-old mother Violet Sajbin, who was in the front passenger seat, were both ejected from the car.
