The first doses of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine were delivered to Staten Island Monday, placed into syringes and administered to health care workers in a symbolic first step to overcoming an outbreak that has killed over 1,100 borough residents and shook the Island immeasurably in the past nine months. Now, the process of delivering vaccines to the borough’s nursing homes, where more than 200 Staten Islanders are presumed or confirmed to have died of the disease since March, has begun.
