STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A two-car crash in Dongan Hills Tuesday night resulted in the drivers of both vehicles being transported to the hospital.
Preliminary information from a NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Information spokesman indicated that a person driving a vehicle on Hylan Boulevard, near Dongan Hills Avenue, had a medical episode before crossing the median and striking an oncoming vehicle in the opposite direction.
One person was transported to nearby Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze in critical condition, according to the NYPD. The driver of the second vehicle was also transported to the hospital with minor pain to the neck and back, the spokesman said.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A medical episode likely caused a crash that sent two drivers to the hospital after one of the cars careened into on-coming traffic on Hylan Boulevard in Dongan Hills, according to police.
A 52-year-old driver was revived by EMS and then rushed in critical condition to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze following the crash on Tuesday evening on Hylan Boulevard near Dongan Hills Avenue. A 48-year-old driver was taken to the same hospital and is expected to recover from injuries to his neck and left knee, according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
Friends, family urge local businesswoman to keep fighting after disturbing crash

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Friends and family gathered in Historic Richmondtown Tuesday night to urge the victim of a horrific car crash to continue fighting.
A Facebook stream of the candlelight vigil allowed Diana Petrone to be part of the ceremony from her hospital bed at Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, where she’s been since the crash occurred Dec. 12 in New Springville.
Billy Contreras, a friend of Petrone’s and president of the Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) organization to which she belongs, said about 10 minutes before the vigil started that they received good news Petrone may have had movement below her neck for the first time since entering the hospital.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A senior woman was taken away by ambulance following a reported pedestrian crash in Rosebank on Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported at about 10:35 a.m. on the 1100 block of Bay Street near Hylan Boulevard.
One patient was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.
The woman appeared to be conscious when she left the location via an FDNY ambulance.
