Mystic The owner of the popular Indulge coffee shop in Stonington Borough is seeking a special permit to turn the former Mystic Chamber of Commerce welcome center on Route 27 into a coffee and sandwich shop.
The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a May 18 virtual public hearing on an application by Geri Moran and building owner Donna D Amico to change the use from office to restaurant.
The shop would be open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., serving breakfast and lunch items, and would have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. There would be parking for eight cars behind the shop. Moran s application states the shop would not generate any more traffic than the welcome center.
Mystic A Pawcatuck man wants to renovate the former Sailor Ed s restaurant and provide space outside for six arts and crafts vendors.
Meanwhile, across Old Stonington Road from Sailor Ed s, Densmore Oil Co. is proposing to demolish the Holly Wreath Christmas shop and construct a two-story building to house its offices, which are now located on the Groton side of downtown Mystic, and two apartments upstairs. Densmore has an oil delivery depot on an adjacent lot on Old Stonington Road and the project is designed to centralize its operations in Stonington.
Both projects need special-use permits from the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission, which will schedule public hearings.
Mystic The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission approved a site plan application Tuesday night to merge two lots on Cottrell and Haley streets to create a 14-space parking lot for the redeveloped Odd Fellows building.
Whaler s Inn RE LLC requested to merge the Odd Fellows lot at 11 Cottrell St. and a vacant lot at 1-3 Haley St. that formerly contained two homes. The building houses three shops Shades of Mystic, Rochelle s and Crop hair salon on the ground floor and four apartments on the upper two floors.
New London attorney William Sweeney, who represents Whaler s Inn RE LLC, told commission members during Tuesday s public hearing that if the parking lot meets the town s site plan requirements, then they are required to approve the application, as the commission does not have the discretion it does with other types of applications, such as special use permits. He then pointed out the project meets or exceeds all bulk and dimensional zoning requir
