The World Snooker Championship is back with a bang at the world-famous Crucible arena. On Sunday afternoon, it will be joined by the FA Cup Semi Final between Leicester City and Southampton at Wembley, as well as next week’s Carabao Cup Final – all of them playing out in front of a crowd as the government kicks off a series of pilots to test the return of mass events. We’ve got an outdoor cinema and an indoor nightclub, and the first indoor business event in Europe since the pandemic upended our lives last March.

Pubs and restaurants re-open for outdoor service for those keen to brave the chilly conditions as England enters step two of Boris Johnson’s lockdown exit roadmap. Other changes include the re-opening of non-essential retail, indoor swimming pools and gyms. MPs who had planned photo ops with celebratory pints will be striking a more sombre tone, though, as the Commons is recalled a day early to pay tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, who died on Friday.
